Sustainable Green Printing Partnership Recertifies Ten New Facilities

The leading non-profit accreditation organization that promotes sustainability in printing practices and manufacturing operations extends re-certifications to ten facilities across the United States and Canada, including Walmart and the United States Government Publishing Office.

Sayville, NY– August 15, 2017 – The Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP), a non-profit organization that certifies printing facilities’ sustainability best practices, announces recertification of 10 facilities across the United States and Canada.

The facilities that recertified this year include:

“The recertification process helps SGP certified facilities refresh their sustainability credentials while reinforcing their commitment to continuous improvement,” said Marci Kinter, SGP Executive Committee member and Technical Committee chair. She continues, “With our approach to continuous improvement, our SGP certified printers categorically operate at higher than required levels.”

When a company achieves a strong sustainability performance, it leads to energy savings, waste reduction, emission reduction, and reduced resource consumption. SGP certified printers are held to a rigorous standard and go through a months-long process where each aspect of their business is evaluated based on pre-determined sustainability baselines. After certification, the company’s sustainability champion is tasked with ensuring that all employees recognize the importance of the SGP Certification, and are able to effectively communicate the success of the facility to all stakeholders. Most importantly, the champion ensures the company’s sustainability journey is constant and on target.

This can ultimately create a competitive advantage, both by reducing – or even avoiding – regulatory-related costs. In a 2016 survey by Appalachian State University, SGP certified printers noted significant improvements in eliminating waste and reducing energy consumption. 62% of certified facilities increased recycling and diverted a higher volume of materials from landfills and incineration, while 52% of certified facilities reported reduced energy consumption and lowered operating costs and waste.

“When selecting a print media supplier, it is important to look at SGP certified facilities as they have credentials validating their sustainability with the highest level of standards in the printing industry,” said Kinter. “SGP criteria looks beyond paper and other substrates to ensure the entire facility is operating and delivering jobs to their customers with attention to every aspect of the company and its production.”
